I think that very few games out (or coming out) have a chance to beat WoW. The trick is to get something that people don't get with WoW. Many people heard about the "ground breaking new combat system" in AoC and switched over, many were disapointed and floated back towards WoW. That alone was proof, WoW lost alot of members because of something NEW. If games just come out with the same old MMO with the same old features, it'll go nowhere Aion has flying and a PvP focused system---This is a possible game for many players of WoW that are more into PvP, along with a serious upgrade in graphics and a sweet arial combat system. Blade & Soul, another game scheduled to come out has a high chance to rise in popularity due to its unique fighting style, visual effects, and other cool features such as running on walls (think of Prince of Persia), and the fact that it looks as if a company took an arcade fighter (like Street Fghter or Tekken) and turned it into an MMORPG. These games could appeal to many of WoW's players because....there's simply no other games like these out. THe way to succees in taking down somethign as strong as WoW is to come up with somethign that WoW doesn't have, something so awesome that people will flood your games servers and never look back at WoW. Originality is key, WoW has everything the "typical" MMO does...and more. For those of you that have actuall read my rantings from 3 in the morning, I thank you for spending the time and hope that it has proven a point.

my first choice would have been perfect world international but it will probably be botted to death before (like silkroad online)its a shame
so the only contender till year end is aion.wow is smooth game make have a hard time cause since wow is the game by with gamer judge their next game its hard for them .forget the content just the keyborad and stuff for exemple basic feature we take for granted like in game chat etc.no more fuzz to get aftermarket like xfire, that does put a stop to a lot of stuff player used to put up with not today it doesnt cut it
1 thing id like in all game to put in is the hability to ignore player it does a great job for ignoring the gold seller and all ,cant ignore in silkroad
so when you add the basic feature of wow to lets say the game it self its no wonder community of wow player grows its smooth it runs on fairly low power compared to aoc
and its cartoonish i like that style make me thing back when i was a kid lol
no wow will still be top i think.
for me 1 dilema is silkroad if they just added an ignore player feature id love this game BUT server are very very very often full not just one all of them did you ever see wow server(all)full i never saw that lot of pvp but i dont know the way of it yet its way more complex then in wow

I don't think wow will get beaten by any game anywhere soon. The only game I could think of that would be able to do something like that is if blizzard would make another mmo.

I believe if Blade & Soul and Aion are as good as they say they are going to be then I think they will have a very good chance at being a WOW Killer. I saw the gameplay for Aion when The MMO Report did a special on it, its pretty amazing, the graphics are really good. WAR isn't even out yet, so who knows, but you can never say for sure who will be a WOW Killer till something comes out or Beta starts for something.
For all we know Guild Wars 2 could be a WOW killer, but we are still waiting for word on that. Plus, I heard a lot of people who are playing WOW right now are quitting when the WoTLK comes out which I highly doubt because the person who said that was my sister and she'll probably NEVER quit.

Sad to say, but it will be very, very hard for any game to beat WoW when they don't know what exactly they are up against. Such a game would need to be better in every aspect that made WoW a success, which I would consider as a remarkable feat.

Aion: Korean developed. Has no previous titles unlike WarCraft, which makes the game concept and theme risky. No fanbase to boost player count. Graphic details are higher, which means that less computers are able to run the game. Aion has unique features, but cannot afford to lose out in the area of typical mmorpg features. Risks having bad translations. Risks having too shallow and meaningless storyline and thus less immersive gameplay. Might succumb to exploits, hacks and bots like typical Korean games.

So as you can see, even for a much hyped game like Aion, faces many potential risks for an attempt to beat WoW. As for people who think that a certain game will beat WoW, must be able to justify his claims by weighing out its advantages and disadvantages.

Actually Invasion, the people who are bringing the Americans Aion is NCsoft which have MANY known games such as Guild Wars, Tabula Rasa, Lineage, Lineage II, City of Heroes, and City of Villains. They are also bringing us Blade & Soul. As far as I know, there are no hacks, bots, etc for those games, they are usually instantly banned. I say these two games will be good, but WOW killers? Who knows, we won't till they come out and people start to play the games.

I just want to point out that WOW is most likely gonna die when people finally get bored of it... Its a very well made game. New games such as WAR and AION will definitely take away a few subscribers, but many players will continue to play it because blizzard does a good job keeping it fun and interesting. Im already done with WOW im just waiting for the open beta for WAR. Hope to play AION too. Stop the hating show some love!

I think blade & soul has a good chance to compete against world of warcraft. IF they put as much focus into other parts of the game(story/lore ..ect) as they are/will put into the combat system (and hopefully controls). Also, I think aion has a good chance too.

I very much doubt any up and coming MMO will "kill" WoW. All they really have going is graphics, possibly a franchise name, and A LOT of hype (WAR, AoC(before it came out), etc)

I believe WoW will eventually die down to where it has a small concentrated base of players but for now, I don't believe anything will stop it's momentum as "King of MMOs". The upcoming WoTLK will do nothing but assure it stays in it's throne for a longer period of time

So to answer your question, there is no "WoW killer." The crown will eventually be passed on as WoW ages but it will never be "vanquished" by any of the newer MMOs.

Just my opinion-

I agree with a lot of people that WoW will be a hard one to take down, but if you look at the games that are ALREADY out that just equal WoW. Given the traits if newer games coming out especially those from NCsoft, there is a guarantee that WoW will los a LOT of its fanbase and a LOT of subscribers.

I myself am a Guild Wars Junkie. Once again NCsoft makes Guild Wars and what amazes me is that despite all of the "Hype" about WoW still going on GW still manages to grow (slowly, but still yet). One thing that draws me to GW is that there is no moneygrubbing going on whatsoever in GW's. Yes, you have to pay the blunt fee for the Cd to install, but after that there is NO extra fees unless you A: Buy another expansion pack to add to your GW client, or B: You purchase the bonus missions to add to storyline.

Here is some of the ways GW equals or even BEATS WoW off the top of my head......

#1 WoW has a good storyline
GW also has a very detailed storyline that gives information on whats going on and how it gets there so to speak.

#2 WoW has better quest's
GW (IMO) dominates WoW in this area and this is why...

Say for instance you get a quest from an npc in WoW that requires you to hunt a boss mob for the reward. The mob has already spawned though and players "camp" boss spawns just to "hunt" the rare items they drop in WoW. GW's unique design allows players to go in their own zone that is made specifically for them or their party to fight the boss spawn that is for their quest. In GW tho quests boss hunting goes even further, the mobs to hunt for ANY quest in GW will only be spawned if u have the quest in ur journal. Reducing both the WoW campers for boss's and Useless boss spawns which will never be touched or worse kill you while exploring.

#3 WoW's leveling system makes you level so much faster than in other MMO's.

Hmm, that statement just sounds SO wrong! GW is open to everyone with w/e kind of work/job/hobbie/w/e life you have going on at the time. It does this by haveing the capped lvl at 20, yea yea yea some people right now are saying ZOMG thats SO LOW! well its lowered for 3 reasons. A: So that it can be obtained from any persons aspect in their life at the time. B: it balances out the entire class system so that people arent too OMFG WTFXORZ 1 shot hitting people. annnnnnnnnnd C: so that the leveling of your character doesnt take away from the fun you have (like your supposed to) while playing the game, so your not so focused on grinding ur brains out.

P.S. If WoW was so easy to level in.........why do we have illegal powerleveling services to "level" your char for you for a price.

#4 WoW has a fee but its SO worth it due to the amount of content it has!

GW has the same amount of content that WoW has but with NO monthly fee whatsoever. If you have all the expansions you have the "race" feel and new lands, cultures, and classes, to explore.

So thats just a few reasons why GW equals or is better than WoW in some aspects.

And yes i firmly believe when these new games come out by NCsoft which i might add that NCsoft has a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEE fanbase on so many games its not even funny. WoW will chewed up spit out and be nothing but a former shell of what it used to be. So all you WoW people who are "WoW will nevvva die!!! it ownz joo!" be ready for a rude awakening...........

Just to add here the new games coming out are being released by these company's. they are huge and look at them for yourself, by NO means do they have a "small" fanbase xD

http://www.mythicentertainment.com/ for WAR
and http://www.ncsoft.net/global/ for Aion, Blade and Soul, and GW 2 =)

Good luck WoW diehards....ur in for a rude awakening.....lol

I think wow will still have the same staying power.. especially with WOTLK coming out.. blizzard is determind to keep the franchise in the fore front of all things coming and going out.

Aion is a great game.. but lets face it.. will it be as accessible and as computer spec friendly like WoW..?

As for Blade and Soul.. another great game that has a good as it gets approach like Aion.. I wonder when will this game be out..

Right now.. I myself is just waiting for Diablo3 (another blizzard game *sigh*) and also PristonTale2.. I hope it becomes a good game since pristontale1 was actually not bad.. just lacks support and developement.

All in all.. right now.. and I do mean now.. It will be relatively impossible for any game to go up against wow.. Not unless blizzard has a disastrous mega data corruption.. which plummets down all character data.. and brings it back to sqaure one.

Then some people might try other games other than WOW.

Honestly, with the upcoming mmo's coming out I don't believe they can knock WoW off it's pedestal.

Firstly, the heated debate of Warhammer Online being just a knock off version of WoW is easily debatable, and from the lasting impressions i've got from 90% of the beta testers that got into Warhammer saying it's extremely unpolished, just another washed out mmo that looks pretty in the details are saying it isn't following up at all. And yeah, I know this is just the beta but with that much negative feedback that doesn't look good for the future of the games final build. Will I play it any? Doubtful but that's just me. Saying it's a wow killer though is just simply idiotic.

Secondly, Age Of Conan. Nah, not even close I have a friend who plays it still and he isn't happy with the content and he's getting close to 70+.

Last of all, WoW is continuing to be accessible to those users with lower end pc's that can't afford the big budget ones. That is why WoW is still popular to this day, among all the other brilliant stuff it has. Even with my 64mb integrated video card and 430+mb ram and a 2.0 ghz processor I can access WOTLK easily and play it, on MEDIUM specs.

Aion and Blade and Soul are looking impressive yes, but they won't kill WoW. Fanboyism aside, I don't think a WoW killer can or will exist any time soon.
