This is THE Monster Observation Guide.
Update: THIS THREAD IS DONE. People can live without pictures for a while.
Due to the Vista problem, the deadline was reset...but it's done!
**Spell check and error correction would help out alot, guys.
This guide deals with tips to help evade attacks by monster mannerisms, how to attack, as well as other monster oriented material.
This will NOT deal with dungeons, however. SO ALL QUESTIONS DEALING WITH DUNGEONS ARE TO BE POSTED IN A DUNGEON ORIENTED THREAD.
Basics: The monster and you!
Monsters are monsters - they hate everyone. Including you! Why? I dunno...but they attack in this game.
Even the cutest Mushmon hits back. Some monsters of the Earth elements (Stone Goblin, Gon, etc.) defend themselves by throwing pebbles and rocks at you. Though minimal in attack, they can interrupt you when you're attacking another foe.
Smaller monsters also like to run. Goblins, for example, run like cowards when they are fearful. Especially the ones with the shovels! And that's another thing..Orcs and Goblins (to name a few monsters) have the advantage of hitting you with a 2x4 or a shovel. Unlike pebbles, these hits may cost you more HP than you realize.
There are 4 ways to bring more damage to your opponent:
critical/aerial hit,
back hit,
double and
counter attack.
Critical/aerial hits occur when you hit the monster or object head-on.
Aerial is an attack that sends an enemy up into the sky.
Back hits are when you sneak behind the monster and hit them on the back of their heads! But be careful, this may backfire.
Double attacks occur whenever a character is shooting from both sides in a dash (i.e. pressing right button then z to attack).
Counter attacks are mostly seen in attacks that come in return of a monster (or player's) hit towards your character or when you smack the opponent after you've fallen.
Dungeons:
Trial Forest
This is the first dungeon you'll ever set foot in. It is located in a forest location.
Objective: Obtain Treant's apple!
Monsters: Mushmon, Slimes, Raccoon
Boss: Treant, a old tree that wants you off his lawn!
Treant's stage is decked out in multiple mushroom platforms. He has 3 known basic attacks. Please view the diagrams below
Treant's Apple Attack
Treant throws apples at you, which is when you collect an apple of his.
Treant's Vine Attack
Treant summons something that looks like a patch of mutant grass or vines or something that entangles his enemy. To release yourself, press the right and left arrow keys alternatively to shake yourself loose.
Treant's Basic Hit Attack
Kitty takes one for the team as Treant hits him. This is a basic attack that EVERY boss has. Just dodge.
Trial Tower:
This is the second dungeon you set foot on.
Objective: Defeat the Monster At The Top!
Monsters: Slimes, Goblins, Stone Goblins
Boss: Wendy
Wendy's stage is a winter wonderland. Although not slippery, you gotta watch out for Wendy's fast and long range attacks.
Wendy's Roll Attack
Wendy has a ability to roll up into a fuzzy ball and cause some damage. If you don't see her arms go up, you'll get crushed!
Wendy's Ice Breath
As the horns and fur indicate, Wendy is a ice monster. Whenever her arms lift up again, she's gunna breathe her nasty ice breath all over. When frozen, just press the left and right arrow keys alternatively to release yourself from a cold, cold prison.
Wendy's Slam Attacks
Wendy has 2 hit attacks: the basic hit and the slam. The slam is the first attack you'll have to jump to evade. When the spell sound alarms and the screen has a "JUMP" caption across it, you better jump!
Outer Wall of Serdin
Objective: Protect Serdin from the Orc's Attack
Monsters: Goblins, Stone Goblins, and Orc
Boss: Orc Warrior (Boss)
We introduce the orcs into this chapter of your journey. 'cept this one isn't small in size and he has weaponry.
1 image: Orc Boss Dash
This orc can pack a punch with it's dash. Whenever the sound alarms, move out of the way!
2 image: Orc Smash/Hit
The boss does the usual basic hit and/or smashing hit
3 image: Orc Hammer Smash
Since he has a hammer, the Orc Boss has an advantage. This is one of the earlier levels where you encounter the jump warning. Just jump at the right time to evade.
Kerrie Beach
Objective: Defeat Monsters Invading Kerrie Beach!
Monsters: Goblins, Harpies, Orc (?)
Boss: Harpie Queen
This boss level is especially hard to early on-ers because of the multiple levels and flying creatures.
1 image: Harpie Queen's Feather Attack
This attack is the prime attack to watch out for. The screen will be captioned with a "Danger" sign and the Harpie Queen will lift up into the air - fetal positioned - and release feathers in a star pattern. Most users evade this attack by dropping down onto different levels so the sharp feathers fly past. Others go into the spaces inbetween the pattern and stay for a minute.
2 image: Harpie Swipe
The most frustrating move performed in this dungeon.Harpies and the Queen swirl around and then pull their claws back to swoop down and hit you. You can avoid it by watching their claws!
Orc Temple
Objective: Defeat the Orcs
Monsters: Orc, Stone Orc, Orc Warrior
Boss: Orc Lord
This level also has lots of levels and Orc WARRIOR monsters instead of those puny Orc monsters. Since elder orcs can throw their hammer, it gives a nostalgic feeling of the Kerrie Dungeon (Ahhh, like the old days).
1 image: Orc Lord's Pound
The Orc Lord uses his enormous hammer to pound the b'jeebus out of you! This is when you jump!
2 image: Orc Hammer Swing
This is no dance move, it's a pain! The Orc Lord swings his hammer around to try and hit you...dodge!
3 image: Orc Lord Dash
Even though he's a bajillion feet taller doesn't mean he's slower! Watch out or he'll run you over!
Orc Lord Basic Hit
Self explanatory.
Gorgos' Dungeon
It's getting hotter! Better bring a water bottle.
Objective: Defeat the Violent Red Gorgos!
Monsters: Gon, Gorgon, Anmon Scout
Boss: Gorgos
Gorgos is the first "mommy" monster you'll encounter. This one is also more energetic than ones you've fought before.
1 image: Gorgos Jump
Gorgos travels from platform to platform by jumping. She isn't exactly light as a feather...so jump when it says to!
2 image: Gorgos' Fiery Breath
Mint? Like Wendy, Gorgos breathes a elemental breath. This spans over the whole platform level she's on, so stand clear.
3 image: Gorgos Baby Power
Gorgos is a mommy! She randomly makes Gorgon when desperate for some advantage over you.
Elven Forest
Objective: Defeat the Monsters Invanding the Elven Forest
Monsters: Harpie, Stone Orc, Orc
Boss: Troll
This Troll is a mean green fighting machine! Proceed and fight with caution
1 image: Troll Swipe
This Troll uses the metal knots in it's arm to smack you! Run out of the way
2 image: Troll's Double Hit/Basic Hit
(NEED HELP COMPLETING ATTACKS.)
Gorge of Oath
Objective: Pass Gorge of Oath to Kanavan
Monsters: Drillmon, Gon, Harpie, Anmon Guard
Boss: Giant Drillmon, a giant mole ...bee..thing..
This boss is a tricky one, only because it can drill into the ground!
1 image: G. Drillmon Fireball
This G. Drillmon uses a fireball unannounced. Dodge it when his arms go up.
2 image: G. Drillmon Sting
This attack is carried out as the Harpies do with their swipe.; The stinger goes back, quickly, and strikes.
3 image: G. Drillmon Drill Attack
The stinger is used to drill into the earth and shower the field with honkin' chunks of rock. These also go in a star-ish pattern, like the Queen Harpie's feather attack.
4 image: G. Drillmon Dash
Like the Gorgos' dash.
Marsh of Oblivion
Objective: Find Out About the Strange Force at Marsh of Oblivion
Monsters: Swamp Slime, Harpie, Dark Mage
Boss: Elizabeth
Elizabeth is well...rude! She scratches her bum, butts into you and doesn't pay attention. So teach her some manners!
1 image: Elizabeth's Rock Slam
She hits the ground. Mud and slime and whatever else that's in a marsh hits you. 'nuff said.
2 image: Elizabeth's Barrel Move
She rolls and HITS you. Which isn't pleasant. Nope, not at all.
3 image: Elizabeth's Tummy Bump
Rude, isn't she? Bumping into you and not saying sorry! This is her "basic hit attack" or sorts, so be careful!
4 image: Elizabeth's Jump
This lovely creature jumps from level to level like the Gorgos. Jump when it says to!
Forsaken Barrows
Better watch out! It's Halloween..but no trick or treating.
Objective: Find the Leader of the Undead
Monsters: Zombie Orc Warrior, Skeleton, Pumpkin Head, Dark Mage
Boss: Lich
Lich is a voodoo shaman who doesn't look too pleased with you trotting into his territory!
1 image: Lich's Jab 1 and 2
These jabs are both vertical and horizontal. Think of it as a love tap...of DEATH.
2 image: Lich's Zombie Hand Attack
Lich can call zombies to grab you and wring the life out of your wittle body. Shake them off, just like Treant's vines.
Forgotten City
Objective: Search the Forgotten City
Monsters: Paraminimy, Mini Stone Golem
Boss: ??? (Name would be good)
There is hardly a diverse attack range for this boss. It mostly is contained of beam attacks.
1 image: Beam Attacks
These beams go diagonal and horizontal. There is a beam attack that is shot and the boss floats across the level. All are dangerous attacks, since they are given at a fast, FAST pace. Proceed with caution while fighting this one.
Gaikoz's Castle
This lonely samurai is sad...but don't let it fool you!
Objective: Defeat the Ghost Knight, Gaikoz
Monsters: Elite Anmon Guard, Dark Mage
Boss: Gaikoz
Gaikoz is also a VERY agile character. Think on your feet!
1 image: Gaikoz's Dirt Toss
Gaikoz, like the G. Drillmon, can toss up dirt when he hits the ground.
2 image: Gaikoz's Traveling Uppercut
Gaikoz makes a U-shaped cut along the level.
3 image: Gaikoz's Teleport Attack
This is the most mind-blowing move you'll ever see in this continent! He rushes in a speeding attack, only to slice at your back!
4 image: Gaikoz's Slash and Dash
Similiar to the above, but doesn't dissappear. He just simply tries to slash people. More like a basic hit/dash.
5 image: Gaikoz's Multislash!
The most coolest move EVAR!!one Watch out! He may cut you if you don't move when it says "Danger!"
