So unless your like 8 years old may just wanna forget this one....I thought the concept was kinda kool at first, running around in a 3D enviroment playing a card battle type system. Well, until I had a question about something. Go to look for the chat and what???? there is no chat!?!? well, theres a moderated chat system with premade phrases such as Hi, Hello, how are you, Thank You, Your Welcome...etc... Well I made it to level 5 after a few hours and finally gave in, I couldn't take it anymore. Pretty much a questing type game(which got really monotonous), no attributes to distribute, no matter how you turn the camera you can never see the front of your character(except for when you log in). Its really geared for those 6-10 years old. So I said my good byes on the forums, told them I was bored with the game and that it could use a better chat system, bla bla bla and so on....fianlly im done and select post and I get this message... Your message is in the queue waiting the analysis of some moderator. Please be patient. Needless to say my message didn't make it to the forums. Guess they didn't like the fact I said the game was boring lol....but thats just me, try it out for yourself, form your own opinion. Really though, wizard 101 is a great starters MMO if your like 8 years old and never played an online game before. But if your spoiled by recent MMORPG's you can plan on skipping this one. Um I can see my character's face just fine. Just turn the camera with the left mouse button instead of with the right...
Also yes, the game is for younger people, it's not made for your age group. It's like you're sitting down with a kid's toy and reviewing it as if it was made for older people. Well, it's not.
It uses the same engine that ToonTown Online uses, and is made for about the same age group. Most things are done to protect kids that are playing. And yes, it is a simple MMO for kids, safe for them to play, simple to learn, etc. You do get strategy with the cards you use, especially the more you level up and start picking and choosing cards for different situations.
Still yes, it is made for kids. Did you really think otherwise when looking at their web page?

Everyone has their own taste in games. I am an older gamer and I rather enjoy Wizard 101. I wasn't sure at first, but it grows on you. I like it because it is a change in pace to all the other mmos out there. The graphics are really nice and the attack animations are great. It is rather quest depended though, because when you try to grind for money and items you don't get a lot of xp or drops. So to lvl at any decent rate you need to quest, also the quests open up new areas for you. Also the different schools are great and you can combine them to make a unique char. My char is a Thurgist (life school) with the Balance school as a secondary. She is great for solo and can take on most bosses herself. Also if you don't think the game is challenging you obviously didn't go to far with your char. The boss fights are really tough and when you get to higher lvls the areas become harder and you may need to group (Sunken city and Marlybone). The monsters will attack you in groups for example. As another poster stated you also need to think about what spells to take (different elemental attacks etc). There's probably more I could mention but just check it out for yourself and and give it a chance.
Waiting for an English version of NED, Prius, Tartaros, Fantastic Melody Online, Pandora Saga, R2: Reign of Revolution and Fantasy Journey Online. |

I'm playing a Death school character :D Although I do wish I made some different choices along the way when I spent my skill points (I went for higher damage instead of higher percentage, which can be cool in some cases but my 70% casting rate spell seems to fail far too often).
And the original poster went to level 5, which is nothing, you don't learn much at all about the game by then.
I think it's actually pretty fun and different than most other games you play.
The chat system is frustrating if you're an adult, but if you are like me and started to play online games when you were 9 (and some of my cousins started to play online games at 7), you'd find that if you're female at least, to hear about old guy's wieners and sex all the time isn't that fun, and that to have a chat system that protects them from that works out great for them.
Also, the game engine is the same as ToonTown for the most part (heavily modified of course), and if they follow in ToonTown's footsteps, once the game is officially open you may be able to exchange codes offline with friends so that you can type to speak normally with them in game without using the speedchat system. I didn't look into it that much to see how they will handle that part of it, but they may do some system to let you chat normally either through codes exchanged offline or through some other account options later.
