Someone said Elder Scrolls Online sucks. Is it true?

May 31, 2012 12:44 am
A guy from lorehound.com lists some reasons why he thinks Elder Scrolls Online will be a horrible game:

Elder Scrolls Online is SWTOR clone?

It seems Zenimax is taking a page out of BioWare's playbook, but didn't realize BioWare's lost the game. Fully voiced NPCs, solo story-line, typical MMO tab-targeting combat system, and a separate zone for PvP; can someone please alert Zenimax to tell them they're making a horrible mistake?

Elder Scrolls Online's public dungeon is totally a mistake?
What's even worse is that game director Matt Firor just did an interview with Edge-Online talking about public dungeons as if they were some ancient game mechanic that hasn't been seen in MMORPGs for years.  Non-instanced dungeons!? Geez, this sounds like the greatest MMORPG ever made (/sarcasm)! Is he serious? There are literally dozens of MMORPGs that released in the last few years without instanced dungeons.

And the dev team:
From a team made-up of some ex Ultima Online and Dark Age of Camelot developers, I can't believe how horrible ESO sounds so far.

I am not sure if it is a troll or just as what it is. Personally, I hope Elder Scrolls Online to be a decent game rather than some craps.

You guys can check out the orginal article below:
Thank You Zenimax for Letting Me (and Everyone) Know Elder Scrolls Online Will Suck

And tell me what you think in the comments below.

Arent we being a bit rash here, dont know anything about the game and we're already judging it as being a clone of X or that its gonna be terrible?

Also no offence but someone lacks a bit of logic:

This seems to imply that swtor failed (which hasnt yet really.. lost a ton of players but still has more players then any p2p apart from wow probably)but anyway even if it failed it was not because of fully voiced npcs, solo story-line or separate zones fo PVP GW2 does most of that as well and so far doesnt seem to be doing bad at all. The problems with swtor have nothing to do with any of these features imho
so saying Elder scrolls online will fail because it copied these features from an MMO that didnt do as good as it was hoped is out of point completely. Its the MMO equivalent of saying that the new car I bought will break down often cause I bought one which is spray painted black and that was the color of the titanic or whatever.

Like I said its too early to tell but everyone reads what they want to read, in my case I like most of what they said so I dont think its gonna be bad, but we;ll have to wait and see

SWTOR has already failed unless it can somehow double its subscription base within the next year. it had a huge budget, but the problem was that people were making projections based on the pre-orders when everyone who wanted the game already had it due to early access stuff. the population was already capped at day 1 with no room for growth. while SWTOR has an impressive 1.3 million subscription base, the huge development costs offsets the size of the subscription base. a game that costs some guy in his house $50k (his annual salary) to develop, but has a 5k subscription base would be considered a greater success than SWTOR.
unlike a F2P game, a P2P game with a "hardcore" player base does not mean anything at all. in a F2P game, these are the guys spending hundreds of dollars on random boxes every month. in a P2P game, everyone is what you would say "equal" because there's no advantages to pay for, but at the same time it means that no one is spending more money than anyone else.

I really don't get it why people judge games when the game isn't even out yet ._.

and how do you know that the 1.3 millions is not exactly enough to cover up the development costs...

Do you have the numbers ????

I know that all u saying sounds logical but without the numbers and a more solid information that is just a bunch of business theory without any substance at all...

The only thing that I can tell you is that some random EA executive already told the public that SWTOR is not their main priority...

the problem with EA is that they almost never release information about their development costs. based on some of the more recent estimates (100 million or so covering advertising i believe), if you don't pay anyone on their staff for a few years, they might be able to recover the costs if they can keep their players above 1 million.

it really doesn't matter that SWTOR is not their main priority. it seems to be operating more based on sunken costs and they are just hoping to recover some of the money. i just don't picture it breaking even for a very long time considering you will need at least a dozen people to maintain the game.

Why is everyone talking about swtor on a topic about elder scrolls online? I personally don't think a single player story is a big deal since elder scroll game's biggest attraction is the open world and exploring.

Well as far as I know, Rift doesnt use the Hero engine... It use another engine that is also a bit problematic by the game of gamebryo or something like that... Just like the one used in Oblivion but a more updated version....

I am so sorry to disappoint you but that is just misinformation... I played Rift for a while and I tweak the game and honesty the game is not Hero engine....

Now if Trion Worlds the makers of Rift is going to use the Hero engine in another game title... that is another story...

the game looks like the single player story mode and online multiplayer are going to be divided into 2 quite different things and that kind of defeats the point of having an MMO in the first place.

If you are wondering why ESO sounds and looks alot like SWTOR, it is because it is being developed on the same engine.
The MAJOR problem here is not the game itself, but the lack of understanding of the Elder Scrolls player base by the developer.
The game could turn out to be a solid MMO, but EVERYONE has heard of Elder Scrolls and EVERYONE will be expecting Skyrim Online.
It is kind of like making a clay-mation sequel to avatar.
